In short
Your recordings stay on your device. Transcription happens on your device. We sell nothing, show no ads and use no tracking.
What stays on your device
- The audio of your recordings never leaves your device (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac or Android phone).
- Transcripts, notes, to-dos and chats, stored in the app.
- If iCloud is on for Murmur, your notes (not the audio) sync to your private iCloud database, run by Apple. We can't access it.
What goes through our server
When you use AI features (notes, chat, mind map) and "Keep everything on my phone" is off, the text of the transcript and note is sent to our server, then to our AI provider to produce the result. Our server does not store or log that text. Our AI provider processes it only to produce the result, under its business terms, and does not use it to train its models.
Our server keeps only: an anonymous key for your install (Apple App Attest, Apple DeviceCheck or Google Play Integrity, to block abuse), usage counters (notes and messages per day and month), and, if you subscribe, your subscription's product and expiry date. No name, no email address, no content.
The server is hosted on Google Cloud.
Reminders, Calendar, email
Murmur adds a to-do to Reminders or Calendar, or prepares an email, only when you ask. That data stays in Apple's apps.
Subscriptions
Payments are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
Your rights
Deleting a note in the app deletes it from your device (and your iCloud if sync is on). Deleting the app deletes everything stored locally. For any question, use the contact listed on Murmur's App Store page.
